A/Professor Patrishia Bordbar is a Specialist Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon (OMS). She graduated from The University of Melbourne Dental School with a BDSc in 1996 and then went on to complete her Medical Degree (MBBS) in 2002, as well as a Masters degree in OMS – all through The University of Melbourne. Following her internship and surgical residency, A/Professor Bordbar completed a four-year hospital-based advanced specialist surgical training in OMS through Melbourne’s major tertiary hospitals. She has spent an additional two years training in the UK, including sub-specialty training in Craniofacial Surgery. She maintains micro-accreditation in Craniofacial Surgery and is a Fellow of The Royal College of Surgeons (Edinburgh), in addition to her FRACDS (OMS).
During her training, A/Professor Bordbar was the recipient of several prizes and awards, including the F.G. Christensen medal for achieving the highest score in the Part I College examinations (RACDS). She has been awarded the John Cade Memorial Medal (MBBS, The University of Melbourne) and the prize for the highest score in General Practice and Community Medicine (RACGP, MBBS).
A/Professor Bordbar is a Consultant Surgeon at The Royal Children’s Hospital and Western Hospital in Melbourne and holds an honorary A/Professor clinical position at The University of Melbourne. She is a regular invited speaker at national and international conferences, and a regular reviewer for major international scientific journals including the International Journal of OMS, Journal of OMS, and The Cleft Palate Craniofacial Journal.
A/Professor Patrishia Bordbar is the Past President of the Australian and New Zealand Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons (ANZAOMS) and currently serves on the IAOMS Executive Committee as the Oceania Member.
A/Professor Bordbar was an examiner of OMS trainees for a decade and is dedicated to training and mentoring the next generation of surgeons. In 2020, she formally established the Epworth/Monash Cranio-Maxillofacial Fellowship programme and is the current chair of this Fellowship. A/Professor Bordbar has a special interest in treating patients with paediatric congenital cleft and craniofacial deformities, trauma, orthognathic surgery and implantology. She has been an early adopter of technology in her speciality and has published on implications of policy changes and funding of CMF technologies in Australia. In addition, she contributed significantly to the Australian Government’s Prosthesis List Reforms. A/Professor Bordbar is the current Chair of the AOMI Board in Oceania (Academy of Oral & Maxillofacial Implantologists) and in this role leads the educational and innovation activities for Oral & Maxillofacial surgeons in the field of implantology.
